Happy Monday, 7L!

1) Carefully take down ALL chairs.

2) Wipe down all tables.

3) Now make sure your backpacks and belongings are out of the hallway.

4) Have a seat.

5) After Morning Announcements, we will discuss week’s logistics, 7L Points, Late/Materials Policy, and 6-8 Hallway Respect.

6) Pick up table with a partner. Bring two chairs to the circle. Earn points!

 

7/8 Reading Quiz!

1. ┬áTake out your reading log, reading, and Writer’s Notebook. Choose a WISE seat where you can work quietly. This is a major percentage of your grade.

2. Put everything else UNDER your desk. Turn in your reading log. Highlight your name for a grade!

3. Carefully get a labtop and log into your Edmodo account.

4. Read the quiz instructions.

5. DO NOT begin until the class gets settled.

CLASSWORK

Goal: By the end of today’s class, you will be prepared to properly write a topic sentence with citation and answer a focus question based on your inferences and textual evidence.

Preparation:
1) Sit down.
2) Take out your copy of “Big Joe’s Funeral” and your Writer’s Notebook.
3) In partners, discuss the following the focus question below. Each member of the group MUST write a response in their Writer’s Notebook. This WILL help prepare you for tomorrow’s quiz so don’t copy.

Answer this question in your Writer’s Notebook.

Describe the setting from “Big Joe’s Funeral” by Walter Dean Meyers. Where do you think it takes place? What type of neighborhood defines 145th Street? What kind of people live there? Use textual evidence to make your point convincing.

HOMEWORK: Type up and TURN IN your response for 2 points.

Expectation:
*Write a strong topic sentence and cite your source.
*Give your reasoning with strong evidence from the text.
*Use at least ONE direct quotation with your reasoning.
*End the paragraph using your own words.

3) Compare and contrast notes with your partner to add to your character analysis. Do you agree or disagree?
4) As a group, discuss the following the focus question below. Each member of the group MUST write a response in their Writer’s Notebook. This WILL help prepare you for tomorrow’s quiz so don’t copy.

Classwork: Answer this question in your Writer’s Notebook.

In Chapter 5, Archie assigns Goubert (“Goober”) to use a screwdriver to loosen “everything in Brother Eugene’s room,” (35) until “everything [is] hanging there by a thread…” If “Goober” proceeds to perform Archie’s assignment, does this make Goober the “I” in the theme? Why or why not?
